1. Preliminary Examination — Exam Pattern
The Preliminary Examination consists of two objective (multiple-choice) papers:
| Paper | Subject | Duration | Maximum Marks |

| Paper I | General Studies | 2 hours | 300 |
| Paper II | General Aptitude Test | 2 hours | 300 |
Key Rules
- The Preliminary Examination is only a qualifying / eligibility test. Candidates are declared qualified for the Main Examination based on the marks obtained here. The final selection list is prepared only on the basis of marks in the Main Examination and Interview.

- Each paper has 100 questions of 3 marks each.
- Negative marking applies: marks are calculated as (3R − W), where R = number of correct answers and W = number of wrong answers. Each correct answer earns 3 marks; 1 mark is deducted for every wrong answer.
- Every question paper is set in both Hindi and English. However, questions under Topic 7 of Paper II (“Hindi Language Comprehension Skill”) appear in Hindi only.
- A provisional answer key is published on https://mppsc.mp.gov.in after the exam. Objections can be filed online within 05 days (with the prescribed per-question fee) through the official portal only. No objections are entertained after the 05-day window.
