India's tribal culture is one of the richest cultural heritages globally. Madhya Pradesh, often called the "Tribal Heartland of India," is home to numerous tribal communities, among which the Baiga tribe stands out due to its unique culture, deep affinity with nature, traditional farming, and ancient lifestyle.

The Baiga tribe is classified as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) by the Government of India. Residing in the dense forests of Central India for centuries, they consider themselves the earth's first human community.

What is a PVTG?

PVTG status is assigned by the Government of India to tribal communities facing social, economic, and educational marginalization, characterized by low literacy, stagnating population, and reliance on pre-agricultural technology. Currently, there are 75 such recognized PVTG groups in India.
